Daylily Seeds 2009 - 2010

Next

Dear Friends,

Our summer is past, our present is now, and our future is here – in the form of little black daylily seeds. They may not look so pretty, but we can hardly wait to see what grows from those funny shapes. Beautiful sometimes, sometimes not so much, it’s for sure they’re seldom boring. And, it’s for sure, daylily-people never lack for something that’s fun to do.

These seeds have been cold-treated and are ready for planting, but they should be refrigerated until they are planted. We don’t recommend outside planting in the fall, if freezing weather occurs frequently.

For outside planting, sow the seeds about ½” deep and keep them moist. You may need to place a board over them to prevent their becoming displaced in a heavy rain. You can transplant them when the foliage is about 6” tall. For indoor planting, cover your seed about ¼” deep and keep them moist and warm in a sunny window or under lights. If you would like more complete instructions, email me at forestlake@comcast.net. We are glad to talk with you by telephone, but I have a voice problem, and you may find communications easier by email.

You will find the seed prices in parentheses after each cross. Unless otherwise indicated, this is the price per seed. This price includes shipping and handling, even outside the USA.

There is no total minimum order, but there is a minimum of $3.00 per individual cross. For example, if a seed costs $2.00 each, we ask that you order two for $4.00. Labeling each cross is labor-intensive, so we have to draw a line.

We do not substitute without permission. You may wish to include a list of acceptable substitutes when ordering, as this will give you a better selection than if you re-order after you receive a refund, when stocks are less complete. Some of you may like for us to select your substitute seed, or part, or all of your seed order for you. We are glad to do this. Just email us at forestlake@comcast.net to tell us what you want in your seedlings and we’ll be happy to choose seeds based on your preferences.

You may prefer to list your seed choices by number and letter. For example,
1a would be BLUE HIPPO ON Blue Me Away. The daylily named first is the pollen parent. As you can see, we have often shortened FORESTLAKE to F. in the seed list.

Our thanks to Kinnebrew Daylily, Garden, Pat Stamile, Gaskins Daylily Garden, Mary Hamilton, Ken Johnson, Art Gallery Gardens, Rollingwood Gardens, Hugh Buntyn, Frank Smith Daylilies, Water Mill Gardens, Le Petit Jarden The Lily Farm, George Doorakian, Jane Unger, Dan Roberts and Chattanooga Daylilies for the use of their photographs.

Remember, WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR SHIPPING AND HANDLING, even out of the country, and we give BONUS SEEDS with every order. Payment can be made with Paypal, personal check, and domestic or international money order.

Happy hunting,

Fran Harding
